Another intriguing currency pair is the US dollar vs. the Japanese Yen (USD/JPY). The US dollar and Japanese Yen is the third on the list of most traded currency pairs after the EUR/USD and GBP/USD. It is traded most actively during sessions in Asia. Movements of this pair are usually smooth; the USD/JPY pair quickly reacts to the risk peaking of financial markets. From the mid 80's the Yen ratings started rising actively versus the US Dollar. In the early 90's a prosperous economic development turned into a standstill in Japan, the unemployment increased; earnings and wages slid as well as the living standards of the Japanese population. And from the beginning of the year 1991, this caused bankruptcies of numerous financial organizations in Japan. As a consequence, the quotes on the Tokyo Stock Exchange collapsed, a Yen devaluation took place, thereafter, a new wave of bankruptcies among manufacturing companies began. In 1995 a historical low of the USD/JPY pair was recorded at -79.80.
Liquidity follows gold trends, increasing when it’s moving sharply higher or lower and decreasing during relatively quiet periods. This oscillation impacts the futures markets to a greater degree than it does equity markets, due to much lower average participation rates. New products offered by Chicago’s CME Group in recent years haven’t improved this equation substantially.
The yen discussion above also highlighted the factors behind the propensity of USD/JPY to trend over the medium-term (multiweek). This facet suggests traders should look to trend following tools such as moving averages (21- and 55-day periods are heavily used), DMI, and Parabolic SAR. (This refers to J. Welles Wilder Jr.'s Parabolic System. SAR stands for stop and reverse.) Momentum oscillators such as the relative strength index (RSI), MACD or stochastics should generally be avoided, especially intraday, due to the trending and institutional nature driving USD/JPY. While a momentum indicator may reverse course, typically suggesting a potential trade, price action often fails to reverse enough to make the trade worthwhile due to underlying institutional interest. Instead of reversing along with momentum, USD/JPY price action will frequently settle into a sideways range, allowing momentum studies to continue to unwind, until the underlying trend resumes. Finally, Ichimoku analysis (roughly translated as one-glance cloud chart) is another largely Japanese-specific trend identification system that highlights trends and major reversals.

When you trade forex, you're effectively borrowing the first currency in the pair to buy or sell the second currency. With a US$5-trillion-a-day market, the liquidity is so deep that liquidity providers—the big banks, basically—allow you to trade with leverage. To trade with leverage, you simply set aside the required margin for your trade size. If you're trading 200:1 leverage, for example, you can trade $2,000 in the market while only setting aside $10 in margin in your trading account. For 50:1 leverage, the same trade size would still only require about £40 in margin. This gives you much more exposure, while keeping your capital investment down.

Charcteristics like volatility, spreads and when these pairs move, etc. will be investigated.
Since the market is made by each of the participating banks providing offers and bids for a particular currency, the market pricing mechanism is based on supply and demand. Because there are such large trade flows within the system, it is difficult for rogue traders to influence the price of a currency. This system helps create transparency in the market for investors with access to interbank dealing.
Mostly due to its revolutionary properties cryptocurrencies have become a success their inventor, Satoshi Nakamoto, didn‘t dare to dream of it. While every other attempt to create a digital cash system didn‘t attract a critical mass of users, Bitcoin had something that provoked enthusiasm and fascination. Sometimes it feels more like religion than technology.

Please Note: There is a difference between a forex chart pattern and a technical indicator. A chart pattern is something you can see on a bare barchart with no indicators added. A bare bar chart is an open high low close chart, without any indicators added at all. Many examples are below. As a matter of fact most technical indicators mask the bare chart patterns because most forex traders attach so many layers of technical indicators to their charts you cannot see any basic chart pattern behind them. Forex traders may have a double top chart pattern right in front of them, but can’t see it because of all of the interference from the layers of technical indicators masking the bare chart pattern. In the charts below with the black background and red and green moving averages, the basic bar chart patterns are very obvious.
Paul Krugman, winner of the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences, has repeated numerous times that it is a bubble that will not last and links it to Tulip mania. American business magnate Warren Buffett thinks that cryptocurrency will come to a bad ending. In October 2017, BlackRock CEO Laurence D. Fink called bitcoin an 'index of money laundering'. "Bitcoin just shows you how much demand for money laundering there is in the world," he said.
Challenge: Banks, brokers, and dealers in the forex markets allow a high amount of leverage, which means that traders can control large positions with relatively little money of their own. Leverage in the range of 100:1 is a high ratio but not uncommon in forex. A trader must understand the use of leverage and the risks that leverage introduces in an account. Extreme amounts of leverage have led to many dealers becoming insolvent unexpectedly.
The MT5 is the next level platform in the MetaTrader platform series. While it retains many features of the MT4, there are some enhancements and outright changes that have been included. There is still a lot of confusion as to what Metaquotes really wants to do with the MT4 and MT5. Initially launched as a replacement for the MT4, the MT5 has found it hard to achieve the kind of market penetration that the MT4 got. So Metaquotes seems just content with allowing retail brokers run along with both platforms. Some forex brokers have tried to push the usage of the MT5 by only allowing certain trading assets on the MT5. So it is not surprising that you will see some brokers offering only stock CFDs or cryptocurrencies on the MT5 platforms they offer.
Order Execution: Available execution methods can depend on whether the broker is a principal dealer acting as a market maker, and/or if they are an agency-only broker relying on third-party dealers (liquidity providers). Other execution methods, policies, conditions, or available order types can vary (including premium or free trade protection tools such as guaranteed stop-loss orders, fill-or-kill or fill within a maximum deviation range) can vary from broker to broker.
Through its international offices, the GAIN Capital group employs over 800 staff and caters to over 200,000 retail and institutional clients. The rounding bottom, head and shoulders patterns, inverse head and shoulders, reverse head and shoulders, triple bottom, cup and handle and the descending triangle, are also valuable. These patterns will help you find trade ideas faster than what the average trader will be able to find. It will help you make sure that you enter the trade at the right price levels.
Currency is also needed around the world for international trade, by central banks, and global businesses. Central banks have particularly relied on foreign-exchange markets since 1971 when fixed-currency markets ceased to exist because the gold standard was dropped. Since that time, most international currencies have been "floated" rather than tied to the value of gold.
Accessibility – Is it a web based software offering? If so, you’ll need just an internet connection to get online, plus you’ll have zero installation, update and maintenance costs. Web based trading software is the best option for beginners. However, if you employ extremely complex algorithms, you may need a computer based installable software. Bear in mind this will be a far more expensive route to go down.

One unique aspect of this international market is that there is no central marketplace for foreign exchange. Rather, currency trading is conducted electronically over-the-counter (OTC), which means that all transactions occur via computer networks between traders around the world, rather than on one centralized exchange. The market is open 24 hours a day, five and a half days a week, and currencies are traded worldwide in the major financial centers of London, New York, Tokyo, Zurich, Frankfurt, Hong Kong, Singapore, Paris and Sydney—across almost every time zone. This means that when the trading day in the U.S. ends, the forex market begins anew in Tokyo and Hong Kong. As such, the forex market can be extremely active any time of the day, with price quotes changing constantly.
It’s a lot simpler than it sounds. For example, if you have ever travelled overseas you have likely made a forex transaction. For instance, if you travel from the US to most of the European countries and you want to have cash in you instead of just credit cards, you would have to exchange your dollars for euros – the currency used in the EU. This is basically a forex transaction. Now, imagine spending 1 dollar to get 0.5 euros (not an accurate comparison – solely for educational purpostes). By the time your vacation ends, the dollar might have become more expensive against the euro, which means that when you exchange your euros back to dollars, you will receive less.

Some conventional forex chart patterns occur frequently on the spot forex. Forex traders need to focus on recognizing flags, double tops, double bottoms, ascending and descending wedges, triangles and oscillations. These chart patterns are easy to recognize and occur frequently on the spot forex, they can also help to confirm your trend direction or in some cases a potential reversal.
This is a hand sketch of an ideal double top on a currency pair. There is a long upward move, sometimes for a few weeks, followed by a double top and reversal back down. Most pronounced double tops are on H4 time frames or larger. The larger the time frame the larger the reversal. Double bottoms also occur. Double tops and bottoms can occur on any pair. Double tops and bottoms occur frequently, more frequently on exotic pairs and quite frequently on the JPY pairs. Double tops and bottoms signal reversals after a long move and are fairly reliable reversal indicators.
The ABCD is a recurring pattern that is repeated over and over in the price charts, with each of the patterns qualify any of the rules mentioned above forming any of the 3 patterns. The ideal way to get started with the ABCD pattern is to look for highs and lows in the price. A good way would be to make use of the zig-zag indicator found with the MT4 trading platform. This indicator can automatically plot the highs and lows and thus identify the traders to any potential ABCD patterns.
Trading foreign exchange on margin carries a high level of risk and may not be suitable for all investors. The high degree of leverage can work against you as well as for you. Before deciding to trade foreign exchange you should carefully consider your investment objectives, level of experience and risk appetite. The possibility exists that you could sustain a loss of some or all of your initial investment and therefore you should not invest money that you cannot afford to lose. You should be aware of all the risks associated with foreign exchange trading and seek advice from an independent financial advisor if you have any doubts.
